ArtistMarketing.biz is the umbrella name of three experienced artists, writers, technologists and teachers, who have brought their own work to market, worked with marketing departments in industry and taught marketing to photographers and writers for many years. 

 

Their combined expertise covers almost 100 years of experience in computer systems, and electronic and traditional printing and publishing tools. They have published virtual books, electronic postcards, and posters, designed web sites, written grants, designed, and written marketing collateral.  

 

Karen Davis, Miriam Goodman and Mark Orton

 

Karen Davis, a photographer, book artist, teacher and producer of Boston’s “Word and Image” lecture series. Her solo exhibits include: Dean’s Gallery at MIT; Carpenter Center, Harvard University; Gallery 57, Cambridge; and Creiger-Dane Gallery, Boston.

Her work is featured in the Houghton Rare Books Library, Harvard University; the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA); the Boston Drawing Project at Bernard Toale Gallery, Boston; and private collections.  Her personal website (http://www.yesthatkarendavis.com/) contains examples of her photographs, book work, and travel journals.

 

Karen has taught photography and word & image courses at Lesley Seminars, Lesley University; The Experimental College, Tufts University; and Radcliffe Seminars, Radcliffe Institute of Advanced Study, Harvard University.  For years, she managed the publication and training group at Kodak Electronic Printing Systems. 

 

Miriam Goodman, an editor, poet and photographer, is the author of three books of poetry from Alice James Books and Garden Street Press. Working with their authors, she has readied ten books for publication in the past three years. Her photographs have appeared on book jackets, in literary magazines and on the web. With Karen Davis, she taught the Word and Image classes, and originated the Word and Image Lecture Series, which pairs a writer and photographer in a collaborative presentation.  During her tenure in industry, she produced and wrote on-line tutorials and training materials for voice recognition software.

 

Mark Orton, a systems designer of software for organization performance assessment, and master tool smith, is experienced in networking, Internet tools and software and debugging. He has produced Flashtm movies of artist books including Pamela Worden’s, “Letters to Andrew: the house book”,  and Dorothy Simpson Krause’s, “Vengeance Is Mine”.  Mark was also a presenter at the 2003 Boston CyberArts Festival, “Creating Flash Movies of Artist Books”. His personal website contains his opinion columns and his photo blog, “Year-in-Pictures” (http://www.markorton.com/).   The website of his consulting company (http://www.riversideconsultinggroup.biz), describes his work in manufacturing, supply chain, high performance work, and training. Orton, together with Davis, has created a number of artist books.
